You’re invited to enjoy these colorful vignettes of life, presented in visually rich watercolor paintings by Sonoma County Artist Melissa J Cox. I have offered a broad variety of life subjects, capturing both some familiar scenes that many will recognize, as well as unique images from my travels and horticultural career. The flora and fauna of Northern California have supplied many ideas for my watercolor paintings. My website is divided into several categories of painting subjects – Animals, Edibles, Florals, Women’s Hats, and Artistic License. Each grouping draws on my life experiences through forty-four years in Sonoma County and while travelling.
With 45 years as a landscape designer, I have applied my experience with shape, texture and color to artistic interpretation of objects, scenes, remembrances, sometimes emotions. My vocation has exposed me to a wide variety of local and ornamental floral expressions which I have rendered in the Florals section as eye-catching watercolor flowers. The bounty of local produce, breads, and wines in California Wine Country has inspired many paintings in the Edibles section. Animals have always had a place in my life, from pets to stallions; and some have been honored with paintings in the Animals section. By chance, a few years ago, I happened upon a quaint millenary shop which inspired the Women’s Hats section. The Artistic License section has become a catch-all classification with a variety of subjects that have caught my attention and imagination.
Most of my watercolors are available in a variety of formats through the Online Store – Original Watercolors, Giclee Prints, Greeting Cards, or Watercolor Panels. Originals are painted on 140# or 300# cold pressed watercolor paper. Giclee Prints are highest quality for longevity and fade-resistance. Several themed assortments of Greeting Cards are available (w/ envelopes). Watercolor panels have a Giclee Print attached to a wood panel – providing a mountable, frameless hanging.
